SAID Foundation Ghana Supports Bahass Foundation: A Step Toward Empowering Mental Health Advocacy in the Upper West Region

In a remarkable act of solidarity and support, SAID Foundation Ghana recently visited Bahass Foundation in the Upper West Region to extend a helping hand. The visit was marked by the presentation of donations aimed at facilitating Bahass Foundation’s noble activities in the region.

The Bahass Foundation, founded by Mr. Illiasu Baba Yussif in 2004, began as a voluntary community group in the Wa Municipality. Driven by compassion and a deep-seated desire to address the plight of people living with mental illnesses on the streets, Mr. Yussif—a herbal medicine practitioner—created this initiative to provide care and dignity to individuals neglected by society.

For years, Bahass operated informally, relying solely on the goodwill of community members and volunteers. By 2010, it attained formal registration as a nonprofit organization, solidifying its commitment to serving mentally ill individuals in the Upper West Region. The foundation focuses on supporting those without families, often left unfed, unclothed, and untreated, by offering food, clothing, treatment, and companionship.

SAID Foundation Visit

SAID Foundation Ghana’s visit to Bahass Foundation underscores its commitment to supporting local initiatives that align with its mission of empowering underserved communities. During the visit, SAID Foundation representatives handed over essential items to aid Bahass Foundation in continuing its impactful work.

“We recognize the incredible work Bahass Foundation is doing to provide dignity and care to people society often overlooks. It is our privilege to support such a cause,” ~Fatawu Seidu.

The event fostered a deeper connection between the two organizations, with discussions about potential collaborations in mental health advocacy and awareness campaigns in the region.

A Shared Vision for Change

Both SAID Foundation Ghana and Bahass Foundation share a vision of creating a society where everyone, regardless of their mental health condition or socioeconomic background, has access to care and support. The visit is a testament to how partnerships can amplify efforts to address pressing social issues, particularly in under-resourced regions like the Upper West.

Bahass Foundation’s impact extends beyond providing material support—it also sheds light on the importance of addressing mental health as a critical aspect of community well-being. With SAID Foundation’s support, the organization can scale its efforts and reach more individuals in need.
